The Company

Broadspectrum are an operations, maintenance and services organisation operating globally in the resources, energy, industrial, infrastructure, rail, and property and defence sectors. Broadspectrum has a long and successful partnership with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and is now expanding due to the renewal and extension of the Base Services contract to manage ADF facilities under the new contract on a national level.


The Role

Due to a recently awarded high profile Defence contract, Broadspectrum are currently looking to engage an experienced Range Supervisor to provide technical advice to Broadspectrum Management and customers as required. This position will see you based at Puckapunyal in a permanent fulltime position.


The Range Supervisor will responsible for providing Range Management services to the Defence Forces. In addition, the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Control and coordinate land access to TA.
  • Coordinate, submit and implement Notices to Airmen (NOTAM) and Notices to Mariners (NOTMAR).
  • Provide a watch keeping function for designated Defence training and maintenance activities on the TA
  • Manage the range safety and exercise control communications system, including operator level maintenance.
  • Issue and receipt portable radios and batteries and conduct operator level maintenance.
  • Record and notify any discovered Unexploded Ordnance (UXO).
  • Provide support to the Range Control functions, including but not limited to:
    • maintain safety information (e.g. no go / restricted areas, overlays, sentry locations);
    • conduct scripted range induction briefings;
    • conduct pre and post exercise/activity inspections;
    • pre and post occupancy inspections of TAR accommodation;
    • maintain statistics and records; and
    • co-ordinate administrative support (e.g. manage complaints)
  • Manage range bookings utilising the Defence mandated Training Area Safety and Management Information System (TASMIS).
  • Manage the Installation and operation of target systems at designated training ranges including small arms and armoured fighting vehicle ranges.
  • Manage the operator level maintenance and non-technical inspections of range facilities and equipment
  • Coordinate technical inspections and repair of range facilities and equipment. Manage The Range Live Fire Target Equipment including stocktakes.
  • Manage range remediation activities making range facilities fit for next user
  • Maintain operational stock levels of range equipment and consumables
  • Manage TA accommodation and associated areas (e.g. coordinate cleaning and maintenance through the appropriate Contractors).
  • Provide specified caretaker functions at designated training areas and ranges.
  • Co-ordinate the Escorting of visitors and Contractors (where required).
  • Manage first response bushfire fighting capability to designated Training Areas and Ranges
  • Liaise with designated authorities in relation to environmental and safety issues under the guidance of Defence.
  • Provide reports and audits in accordance with the regimes

Skills and Experience

  • Well defined written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Basic Computer skills in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to use tools specific to range operations and maintenance processes including (but not limited to) power tools, chain saws, and other unspecified plant and equipment (but not limited to) power tools, chain saws, and other unspecified plant and equipment
  • Have experience in inventory control, stock management and storage maintenance.
  • Have good radio communications skills.
  • Cert III in Conservation and Land Management highly desirable
  • Possess the skills or have the ability to quickly acquire the skills to operate DART, MTR and SMR target systems.
  • Have experience in inventory control, stock management and storage maintenance.
  • Familiarity operating in a Defence Environment is strongly desirable in this position.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate using a map and compass including highly competent in map to ground navigation from a vehicle.  Ability to annotate to maps in Defence vernacular.
  • Currently holds vehicle license including plant driver/operator’s license.
  • Experience in RTA and/or Land Management desirable
  • Certificate in Senior First Aid
  • Bush fire fighting qualifications
